A Medieval Strap Fitting (reverse)
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy swivel strap fitting dating to the Medieval period (c. AD 1100-1500). The object comprises of two plain D-shaped loops with bevelled internal edges. The loops are joined by a single integral rivet, now missing. The swivel shows signs of wear through pit marks and some deep scratches. The object has a greenish brown patina.

Medieval swivels were used on a range of strap fittings including animal leashes, hanging purses and sword belt fittings. The purpose of this example is undetermined.
