Title |
A Neolithic or Bronze Age sub circular white flint 'pot lid' with spots of iron staining |
||
Description |
English: A Neolithic or Bronze Age sub circular white flint 'pot lid' with spots of iron staining. Modified to perform as a scraper by flaking along the entire curved edge. The straight edge has been created by one large removal, possibly natural. Probably Neolithic or Bronze Age (c3500 to c800 BC) but impossible to date accurately.
Modified natural 'pot lids' would have made an expedient 'quick fix' tool in an emergency. The presence of four in the same vicinity suggests a butchery site or camp. They were possibly used only while the site was occupied then discarded. The length is 22mm, the width is 17mm, the thickness is 6mm, and the weight is 1.66g. |
