Title
A Post-Medieval copper alloy button
Description
English: An early Post-Medieval copper alloy hooped disc, probably an incomplete mount (1500-1700 AD). The object consists of a flat disc that has been cast all in one with an unusually large attachment loop which projects approximately 7.5mm from the reverse. The attachment loop is slightly off-centre and has a small internally-cast rivet projecting from either side of it, along the opposite axis. The rivets are not visible from the upper surface of the mount, and therefore would have been cast to hold something in place on the reverse, possibly two attachment loops which could have been folded round from another metal element that could have been added to the upper surface. The mount is entirely undecorated and has a crude finish; the alloy is corroded and the surface is a dark grey-brown colour. Dimensions: thickness: 2.18mm; diameter: 25.11mm; weight: 7.19g.
