A Post Medieval iron key (17th century).
Description
English: A Post Medieval iron key (17th century). The key has an oval loop with faceted section, a circular, solid, shank with a ridge before a narrow section that terminate in a groove at the end of the shank; and a rectangular bit with wedge-shaped section (length of bit: 24.62mm; width: 24.80mm; thickness: 8.74mm narrowing to: 5.40mm). The bit is symmetrical with three horizontal rectangular cutaways and one vertical.

Geoff Egan (PAS Finds Advisor) suggests a 17th century date for this key.

Dimensions: diameter of shank: 9.31mm; length: 136.87mm; width: 46.82mm; thickness: 5.20mm; weight: 85.86g.
