A cast copper alloy Medieval casket key
Description
English: A complete cast copper alloy Medieval casket key dating from late 12th - early 14th centuries AD. It has a a circular bow with a rectangular collar separating it from the solid stem, which is sub-rectangular in section. The stem tapers towards the bit and the projecting pin. The bit is simple, with two clefts, one on the underside, near the channel, and one on the topside close to the ward. It is in good condition, with a dark green patina. It measures 44.00 mm L x 14.95 mm W x 3.51 mm TH and weighs 6.69 g.

A similar key can be seen in Read 2001, no 538.
