A cast copper alloy Medieval key
Description
English: A complete cast copper alloy Medieval key, probably dating to 14th-15th century. It is sub-rectangular in section. It has a lozenge shaped bow, with concave angles, bordered with a thin rectangular collar connecting to a hollow shank. There is a sub-circular hole on one side of the shank, in front of the bit. The bit is symmetrical, consisting of two solid prongs that each have a subtriangular hollow section on the outer edge. The key is in good condition, and is covered in a dark green patina. except for a scratch over the collar that shows the uncorroded metal underneath. Propbably Class VI (MOL). It measures 90.3 mm L x 28.6 mm W x 7.3 mm TH and weighs 38.6 g.
