Title
A cast copper alloy Medieval lock
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy unidentified objet of uncertain date and function. It consists of a dome shaped base, with a broken integral shank projecting out of the bottom. On top of the base is a short square stem; on this is a lateral cylinder that is sub-oval in section. The cylinder has one side that is more convex than the other; the top is stepped. Both ends of the cylinder are flat, with old breaks in its centre indicating there was more attached to it; one side has an off-centre projection of more copper alloy, whilst the other end has a mass of iron corrosion, although it is not clear if it originates from the end of the cylinder or from the top. From the top of the cylinder are two projections, situated one at each end; both are broken. It is possible that this was a furtniture fitting, particularly a drawer or cabinet handle. It measures 25.10 mm L x 25.06 mm W x 14.29 mm TH x 21.11 mm DIA (of mount) and weighs 29.43 g.
