Title
A cast copper alloy Post Medieval buckle
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy Post Medieval spectacle buckle dating between 1550-1650. It is D shape in section , and double looped in plan. The central strap bar has a small knop at each end. Each loop has a central lobe with a moulded rosette. Although the pin is missing, it was probably iron as there is iron corrosion visible on the bar strap. There are patches of black lacquer on the reverse, and of polychrome lacquer on each lobe, possibly originally red and black, but in its current it is orange-brown and black. The buckle is in good condition, and dark brown in colour with small patches of light green corrosion. It is slightly bent, with each loop bending inwards towards the bar strap. It measures 35.99 mm L x 26.37 mm W x 2.68 mm TH and weighs 5.02 g.

A similar buckle can be seen on the database SUSS-F96715 and in Whitehead 1996 no 408.
