No. 225,p. 194, suggests that it may be the companion picture tc the Portrait of anOld Lady in an Arm-Chair in the Collection of Mr. Arthur Sanderson,Edinburgh, which is now in the Collection of IVIr. Benjamin Altman of NewYork. Canvas. 49 in. x 371 in. (1.244 ^ 0-95 )• Signed near the top right-hand corner, and inscribed with the date, nowalmost illegible. Painted about 1637-39. Formerly in the Hoofman Collection, Haarlem. Lately in the Collectionof Lord Ashburton, at the Grange, Alresford, Hants. Formerly at BathHouse, London. He wearsa red cloak and a white shirt, which is left open at the neck. Beforehim is placed a basket full of fish ; they are about to be weighedin the scales, which are affixed to a wooden pole. Landscape back-ground to the left. Canvas. 36i in.X46^ in. (0.926 x 1.18). The original attribution to Velazquez was changed many years ago toJuan de Pareja, his pupil.
