Title
A complete Roman cast copper alloy finger ring key, 43-410 AD.
Description
English: A complete Roman cast copper alloy finger ring key, 43-410 AD. The find consists of a rotary key also intended to be worn as a finger ring; the primary purpose of it, however, is functional. The hoop of the finger ring is simple; it has a D-shaped section with a flat interior edge. Its internal diameter measures 18.01mm. At the bezel of the hoop the ring projects upwards into a sylised curvilinear symbol that abuts the shank of the key at ninety degrees. The raised shank itself projects outwards from the hoop for only a short length – approximately 13.2mm. The shank is hollow-ended. The rectangular plan key bit projects from the shank at ninety degrees to it. The simple bit has an S-shape pattern formed from two opposing clefts, one set slightly lower down the bit than the other. The key has a pale yellow-gold surface with a fair covering of dark corrosion. Dimensions: length: 19.22mm; width: 14.76mm; diameter: 18.01mm; weight: 6.91g.
