Title
A complete late medieval - early post medieval copper alloy lace tag dating late 15th - 16th century
Description
English: A complete late medieval - early post medieval copper alloy lace tag dating late 15th - 16th century. This is a Type 3 lace tag - cylindrical in form, securing the lace along its length, with edges overlapping along its entire length (Margeson 1993:22-23). There are no rivets nor decoration. Both edges have been folded over in the same direction so that one is overlying the other along the outer surface. The tip has been worked to have a faceted point.

Margeson (1993:22) writes: "lace-tags (or 'aiglets'), made of sheet copper alloy, were used to prevent the ends of laces fraying, and to ease threading, corresponding with the use of points for fastening doublets and hose, and the use of laces for various dress function from the 15th century onwards."

Dimensions: length: 30.84mm; diameter at peak: 3.05mm; weight: 0.57g.
