Title
A copper alloy Trumpet brooch dating from 75 - 175 AD
Description
English: A copper alloy Trumpet brooch dating from 75 - 175 AD. The pin and catch plate is missing. The head is decorated with enamelling on the trumpet bell and also on the lower bow. The acanthus button is prominent. It continues right round the bow but is less prominent at the back. There is a pronounced collar above and below the button. The foot is a thick disc with a pointed base, and there is a thick collar above it. There is a single projecting loop behind the head to hold the pin mechanism, and most of the catchplate survives. The brooch has a light green patina. It has a length of 48.92mm, width 16.69mm, thickness 6.83mm, weight 18.03g. For reference see Hattatt 2000.
