ed and Javan Jungle-Fowls, and clearly exhibitsthe characters of both parents. The comb is toothed, and inaddition to the large median throat wattle, there is a smalllateral pair. Gallus violaceus^ Kelsall (J. As. Soc. Str. Br. No.xxiv. p. 167 (1891) and No. xxv. p. 173) is also in all proba-bility a hybrid between the above species. The type, supposedto have come from Borneo, was living in the Botanic Gardensat Singapore. The bird from the Sulu Islands has been namedGallus stramijieicollis by Dr. Sharpe (P. Z. S. 1879, p. 317), butit is probably only the offspring of a domestic variety runwild. THE PEACOCK-PHEASANTS. GENUS POLYPLECTRON. Polyplectron^ Temm. Pig. et Gall. ii. p. 363 (1813). Type, P. chinquis (Miill.). Tail composed of iiventy to iiventy-four feathers, large, full, and rounded, the middle pair being about twice as long as the outer pair, and each ornamented with one or a pair of metallic ocelli^ which are rudimentary or absent in the females of some species.
