imer the leader of the Goths, in 460,whence it is also called S. Agata deiGoti. Desecrated by the Ariaus, itwas re-consecrated by St. Gregory theGreat in 693, and raised to the rankof Titular. Between 1592 aud 1633it was restored by some BarberiniCardinals, who destroyed a mosaic inthe tribune, co-eval with the foun-dation, and bearing the name of Ri-cimer. In the nave are twelve veryrare columns of reddish yellow granite,with Ionic capitals, from some ancientedifice. On the rt. of the principalentrance is the sepulchral slab of JohnLascaris (1535), one of the Greekrefugees who fled their country afterthe fall of Constantinople, and amongthe first to introduce the study ofGreek literature into western Europe.It bears the inscription, written byhimself in Greek :— Lascaris lies herein a foreign grave; but, O stranger,he does not feel uncomfortable on thataccount—he rather rejoices; yet is notwithout a pang, as a Grecian, that hisfatherland cannot afford him an eman- pia.Tii3, Ht^aa

Thepoor relief represents OConnell re-fusing to sign the Declaration at theBar of the House of Commons in 1829.In the opposite aisle is a monument toCard. Mario y Catalan (1841). Festa,5 Feb., 17 Mar. The Church is atother times seldom open, but visitorsare courteously admitted by the Col-lege entrance in the Via Mazzarinoat any reasonable hour. The Churcli of S.
