Minstead Church: The Three-decker Pllpit LYMINGTON BOROUGH LYMINGTON BOROUGH Lentune (xi cent.) ; Leminton, Lyminton,Lymington (xiii cent.). The quiet town of Lymington lies on the westernbank of the Lymington River, about 2 miles from theSolent. The mud flats lining the little creek lieexposed except at high tide, and behind them is alevel sweep of land rising to the west ; the townstretches from the river up the hill. The originalborough would s^em to have been a strip of landlying by the river bank and its wharf, and probablyincluded the High Street and the land to the south.In evidence of this it would appear that when theborough boundaries were extended in the middle ofthe 13th century the extension lay on the northside of the church, which lies at the west end of theHigh Street, a long wide way leading up the hill at
