The dome thus falls at two points of its periphery sometwo feet inside of the arches upon which it depends for support.The small scale of the building makes it possible to meet the diffi-culty of construction in the simplest manner by corbelling forwardthe wall over the two smaller arches. In form the dome resemblesthat of many of the smaller Byzantine churches, with a circular wallor drum carried up so as to enclose the lower half of it, with only theupper flat segment showing above the cornice, and a ring of smallwindows at its base. The side bays of the transept are very longand narrow, having only the breadth of the aisles, and are coveredby high-stilted, slightly pointed barrel vaults, their axes in a linewith the aisles. The aisles themselves are covered by sloping woodceilings following the line of the roof, and the nave has a covedwooden ceiling of the richest Moorish character, similar in design tomany of those in Granada and Seville, and decorated in the most
