The last of Captain Prescotts article is here inserted onCompany G (mounted) : We were occupied during the days intervening up toJune 14th in guarding foraging parties and trains, shortscouting marches and headquarters duties, having detachedquarters on plantations near the right of the line. On the13th we were ordered to join the regiment, and on thatevening we marched over to the centre and took our placein the regimental line. This ended the mounted serviceof the company, and on the 14th, that bloodiest day thatthe Eighth ever experienced, its men stood shoulder toshoulder with their comrades taking their full share in thatterrible strife. Major Henry H. Huse was born in West Fairlee, Vt.,in 1839. ^^ ^^^^^ educated in schools at Lowell andManchester and taught the High School in Hollis in1859-60. MAJOR HENRY H. HUSE. New Hampshire Volunteers. 257 Hampshire Volunteers. Just after the fight at Bisland,La., in April, 1862, Company G under Captain Husemade the first departure from the regiment as mountedinfantry and returned to the refriment on the eve of the14th of June, 1863, attack on Port Hudson. Continuingill-health, resulting from service in the malarious districtsof Louisiana compelled him to resign and he received anhonorable discharge on September 22, 1863. Previously,on July 16, he had been commissioned as major by thegovernor and council. He resumed his law business in Pittsfield and wasadmitted to the bar in March, 1864. For three years hewas the principal of Pittsfield Academy. In October,1868, he went into law partnership with Lewis W. Clarkin Manchester, in 1872 with Hon. James F. Briggs. Heserved several terms in the Legislature, and in 1879, ^^speaker of the House. In 1885, he was elected com-mander of the Amoskeag Veterans. In March, 1888, hewas appointed by the
