silverygrey; under tail coverts white, slightly barred withbrown. Beak black; tarsi and toes yellow. Young birds of the year have the head prettilystriped longitudinally with rich brown of two shades,and white. The upper plumage rich dark brown; theedges of the primaries, wing and upper tail coverts,bordered with fawn-colour. The chin is white with afew longitudinal dark streaks; the crop and chestbroadly marked with brown and white longitudinalspots, which assume a crescentic shape and lightercolour on the abdomen, thighs, and under tail coverts;under wing coverts above fawn-colour, below cream-colour, barred with grey and brown on all the feathers,less distinct on the two above and below; beak horn-colour; tarsi and feet yellow. I have much pleasure in designating this bird Falcogurneyi, in honour of J. H. Gurney, Esq., M.P., ofCatton Hall, Norwich, a gentleman who has donemuch to increase our knowledge of raptorial birds.The name of Levant Sparrow-Hawk is a suggestionof Mr. Gurney.
