Title |
A lead steelyard weight, probably dating to the Roman period (AD 70-410). |
||
Description |
English: A lead steelyard weight, probably dating to the Roman period (AD 43-410). The weight is biconical in form. Both the top and bottom of the weight show signs of iron corrosion where a suspension loop would have been attached with an iron bar through the centre. The surface is now a light grey/brown colour with numerous scratches and dents including a large rectangular depression. Many similar examples have been found on the PAS database; for example NMS-1815C6, SWYOR-B85A02 and KENT-DC6FC3.
The length is 45mm and the width is 30mm. |
