Title
A possibly Medieval copper alloy buckle.
Description
English: A Medieval copper alloy cast unidentified object , possibly dating from the 12th century AD. The object is formed of a copper alloy strap bar which is circular in section. At one end of this there is a moulded head of a cat, also in copper alloy. The eyes and nostrils of the cat are finely done and there are to pointed ears at the top of the head formed. The neck of the cat forms the curve of the object, leading to the back of the object. This appears to be a hollow copper alloy bar, one side of which is broken away revealing iron in side the back of the bject. It is possible that this is a repair or strengthening for the bar. The other end of the bar and back of the object is a straight ridge of copper alloy forming a terminal. The buckle is 41.6mm long, 15.3mm wide, 5.6mm thick and weighs 10.4g.
