Title
A post medieval copper alloy decorated lace tag dating to the 17th century.
Description
English: A post medieval copper alloy decorated lace tag dating to the 17th century. This lace tag is Margeson type 3 (1993, no. 126). It is constructed by folding a sheet of copper alloy to form a cone so that the edges overlap, there is a globular knop at the end. It is then connected to the lace with rivets, which are no longer present; there are three rivet holes. The decoration is repousee and comprises a foliate design on a beaded background. The upper edge of the lace tag has been decoratively cut to form a scalloped edge, but only three of the semi-circular projections survive.

The style of decoration and the knop is different to the lace tags illustrated in Margeson (1993: 23) but Hazel Forsyth is happy that this example is post medieval.

Dimensions: length: 44.77 mm; width: 5.21 mm; weight: 0.88g.
