Title
a post medieval double loop spectacle buckle
Description
English: A medieval, double loop oval spectacle buckle dating from AD 1450-1600. The underside of the frame is flat and the upper side bevelled. Each loop has a number of deeply filed, angled grooves, giving the effect of a serrated outer edge. The central spindle and the pin have broken away and are missing. The buckle has been heavily tinned and much of the tinning remains on both upper and lower sides. It is 32.3mm long, 30.2mm wide and 3.1mm thick. It weighs 5.88gm.

For refererence see Whitehead, 2003, Buckles, 1250-1800, page 60, number 354.
