Title
A single view of a Post Medieval buckle.
Description
English: The object is a double-looped sub-rectangular buckle frame, of which only a single loop and strap bar remains. It is made from cast copper alloy. The loop is a sub-trapezoidal shape with flared corners. The edges have a moulded scalloped design, and the surface is decorated with circular stamped impressions. The strap bar is a sub-trapezoidal shape in section. The frame is broken just beyond the strap bar, and therefore the majority of the second loop is missing. The pin is also missing. The surface of the buckle frame is corroded and has patches of red copper corrosion, otherwise the surface of the brooch has a mid grey patina. The buckle measures 25.09mm long and 29.86mm wide. It weighs 3.4g.

Whitehead (Whitehead, R. 1996 Buckles 1250 to 1800 Greenlight Publishing.) illustrates similar shaped and decorated examples, for example No. 22 which dates to the 17th century.
