The lower end ofthe screw f is connected with a square vertical slider, h, which is fitted into a socket, i,fixed to the upiiglit part D of the frame, and the slider ii is thereby confined to move upor down, with an exactly vertical motion, when it is actuated by the screw, without devia-tion from the vertical. Thus far the machine is an ordinary screw press, such as is commonly used for cuttingand compressing metals for various purposes.
