In the female the Wolffian ducts almost entirely disap-pear, but traces of them may be found as the canals of Gartner. 4^ PREGNANCY Pathological development and distention of these ducts some-times give rise to vaginal cysts, which may obstruct labor. Meanwhile most of the Wolffian body (mesonephros) disap-pears on each side, but remnants of it may be found in adults.In the female they constitute the parovarium (epoophoron, orbody of Rosenmuller). The Development of the External Genitals.—The forma-tion of the cloaca is common to both sexes, as is also its separa-tion into an anal and a urogenital portion.
