Di ie Gattung Budclleja, welche den Typus dieser kleinen natürlichen Pflan-zengruppe bildet, Aviu-de von Houston im Jahr 1733 aufgestellt, imd zuEhren eines in der Botanik sonst unbekannt gebliebenen Mannes genannt.Die Pflanze, welche diesen Namen erhielt, wird schon 1696 von Sloanein seinem Catalogus erwähnt, imd später (1707) von ihm in der Vojage totJie Madera, Bai-badoes, Niei^es, St. Chrislophers and Jamaica beschriebenund abgebildet. Er fand sie in den Antillen an den Ufern der Ströme, wosie einen Baum bildet, welcher gelbe, ährenständige Blüthen trägt, imd des-sen wollige Blätter mit denen eines Verhascum grofse Ähnlichkeit zeigen.Patrik Brown erwähnt sie später (1756) in seiner Historj of Jamaica alsBuddleja assurgens, incana, foliis majorihus, spicis assurgentihiis.
