English: Afghan and Korean doctors work together to treat the burns on a young Afghan girl Feb. 27 at the Bagram-based Korean hospital. The girl received burns to most of her torso and upper thighs. After cleaning and dressing the wounds, the girl was released to her mother. Recently, the Korean government-funded hospital was able to begin setting up follow-up appointments to care for patients under they are fully healed, instead of just triage and minor care. The hospital, staffed by Afghan and Korean medical professionals alike, is host to roughly 120 patients a day for the five days a week it is open. Patients arrive at the hospital from as far as a two-day walk to receive the free medical treatment they cannot find in more rural areas. |
