THE PEABODY PLAYHOUSE AT NANEPASHEMET, MASS. fashion of an English cottage, and pro-vided with pretty latticed windows, whichopen outward. It is situated on the slopeof a hill, not far from the main house, andthe shingled finish of its exterior, staineddark red, with door and window trimmingsof pure white, contrasts well with thevaried greens of the surrounding lawns andshrubbery. The quaint entrance porch, almosthidden by the vines of the crimson rambler,gives access to a single large room, whichcomprises the interior completely equippedwith tools and other appliances for manualtraining. The walls are sheathed in pine,and the floor of hard-wood is stained andpolished. Cosy chairs are placed about,and two center tables furnish convenientreceptacles for books, etc. From a discarded bath house wasevolved the playhouse of a little Salemmaid, and in its transformed state it ischarming and artistic.
