for connecting with the light-bracket. The sides of the rack are lined with some suitable whitematerial, such as rice cambric, or other similar fabric, andthis is fastened by means of thumb-tacks. The lining shouldbe stretched tightly at the top and at the bottom, but allowedto sag somewhat in the center, so as to prevent the texture ofthe cloth from ibeing visible through the negative. The ends of the cabinet are closed by fastening jn the same Gray: Portable Plate Exhibit Rack II way to the legs, some opaque black material, which has beencut into the shape of an isosceles triangle. It may be preferred to cover the slats with a thin strip ofwood so as to convert into a groove what is seen here to be arabbet so that the plates cannot be displaced. I have notrouble, however, with the slats as you see them. This rack, though it appears slender, has accommodated fromthirty to forty plates without the slightest show of unsteadi-ness. The plates and braces seem to make it remarkablystrong.
