Text Appearing Before Image:
time to replace those which become obsolete, are im-portant items in the maintenance expenses of an up-to-dateequipment. Such, expenditures as these may, of course, beavoided if one is content with mediocre results, or if he doesnot undertake the difficult cases. The Roentgenologist who would excel must provide himselfwith the best possible equipment; he must acquire skill in thetechnique of using it; he must be painstaking in his observa-tion of the plates, accurate and not over-enthusiastic in hisinterpretation of them. His opinion should be -valued ratherthan his so-called X-ray pictures. The somewhat spectacular features- of Roentgen diagnosishave attracted to it a few prolific writers whose accounts ofmiraculous results are not worthy of confidence, but there arein the field many earnest scientific men who are devoting theirlives to making Roentgenology more and more useful to thehealing art, and who deserve the respect and co-operation oftheir colleagues in medicine and surgery.
Text Appearing After Image:
Interlobar abscess. The light shadow in upper right side of plate wasproduced by pus between upper and middle lobes of right lung, and walled or!by adhesions. An accurate diagnosis had been made from the symptoms andphysical signs alone. This diagnosis was confirmed by the X-ray and later byoperation and autopsy.—E. W. Caldwell, M. D.
