ections, it has done well. The classification ofthese troubles is now in rather an arbitrary stage, but thework which Dr. Hammond has done is certainly along theline to enable us to arrive at something definite. All theseprocesses, as shown by the Rontgen ray, appear to be differ-ent stages of one and the same primary cause, but I thinkthat the condition is probably due to absorption and impropernutrition. First of all comes the intestinal tract. It seems tome that the source of infection, and in that case it would bean auto-intoxication, must in most cases come from a saggingtransverse colon in which there is taking place absorption ofthe products of putrefactive fermentation. In the stomachthere is not so much absorption. The fluid proceeds rapidlyinto the large bowel, as shown by many radiographs. Thestasis takes place in the transverse colon and it is perfectlyreasonable to believe that we get most of our absorption ofputrefactive products from the material in the transversecolon.

You have all heard, and many times, the question askedby a patient after radiographic examination, When may Ihave the picture? Before I give you the reply I make tosuch an inquiry, there are a few prefatory remarks which Iwish to make. I have a peculiar and strong feeling towardmy negatives; they are my pride and my treasure. They arealways wonderful to me because they show in life so marvel-ously by means of that invisible yet terribly potent ray, factsregarding the structures of the human frame whose secretsthe healers of human ills have sought for thousands of yearsto lay bare; and here we have these facts revealed to us inan instant almost, at any time when we need to know them.My feeble eloquence would fall infinitely short of expressingthe wonder, the marvel, and the awe that I feel in the pres-ence of this gre
