These words wereuttered by the son of an old cannibal,at the valedictory meeting held at Lifu,on the eve of our departure to establishthe New Guinea Mission ; and theywere uttered amidst great enthusiasmThe speaker was describing the process of catchingwhales, with which the people were familiar, as thewhaling ships came annually to Lifu, and many of theyoung men were employed as boats crews during theseason. He was one of the seniors in the institution 7 8 AMONG THE CANNIBALS. for the training of pastors and pioneer evangelists, andhe was addressing four of his fellow-students, whom Ihad selected, with four of the native pastors, to be thepioneers of our New Guinea Mission.
