Title |
An incomplete Medieval miscast copper alloy item, probably a rotary key (14th – 15th century). |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete Medieval miscast copper alloy item, probably a rotary key (14th – 15th century). The artefact consists of what is probably the bow and stem of a miscast key. The stem is hollow and only the upper half remains; the stem is approximately 8.4mm wide. No key bit is present. The bow of the key is solid but much of the lower half is missing. A distinct casting seam runs along the upper edge of the key stem and around the outside edge of the bow. The exterior surface of the key has a light olive-green patina; the interior surface is covered in concretion. The artefact measures 48.4mm long, approximately 16.7mm wide and 8.4mm thick. It weighs 10.94 grams. |
