Title |
An incomplete Post Medieval cast copper alloy double-looped trapezoidal buckle. |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete Post Medieval cast copper alloy double-looped trapezoidal buckle. Only one half of the symmetrical double-looped buckle frame remains. The frame has a trapezoidal plan, a flat face and a sub-rectangular cross-section. At the centre of the outside edge the frame extends into a point. On the upper and lower sides there is a small knop where the strap bar abuts the buckle frame. Here scars suggest where the other half of the double loop has been lost. The buckle pin is also missing. The buckle has a uniform brown-red colour with patches of green patina. It is 24.1mm long, 19.2mm wide and is 1.8mm thick. It weighs 2.4 grams.
A similar buckle, complete, is illustrated in Whitehead (2003) p. 82, ref. 513 and is dated to 1620-1680. |
