Title |
An incomplete socketed axe of Late Bronze Age date |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete socketed axe of Late Bronze Age date. Only a small fragment from the socket end survives, the remainder now missing due to old breaks. It is roughly triangular in form, curved in profile and with moulded decoration on the outer surface. This comprises a projecting, moulded rim, beneath which is a smaller transverse moulded ridge. A vertical casting seam is present to one side and the entire object has a slightly pitted dark green patina. It measures 29.31mm in length, 29.69mm in width, 5.31mm in thickness and 15.79g in weight. This is a fragment of socketed axehead dating to the Late Bronze Age, c.1150-800 BC. |
