It is from this manuscript that the graceful design of the Annun-ciation is taken, which we have given in Plate 3, in juxta-position withLord Spencers wood-engraving of the same subject, of the year 1423.This MS., which was once Mr. Douces, is in my own collection. Plate 24. The specimens here given, are taken from a manuscriptin folio, in the collection of His Royal Highness the Duke of Sussex,containing the first part of a translation of the Holy Scriptures, in theDutch language. This translation was, I understand, originally madein the fourteenth century. The copy, I suppose to have been writtenand illuminated about the year 1420. The Royal Library at theHague contains a complete copy of the work, apparently of the sametime, in two large volumes; wherein several of the figures in theilluminations so nearly resemble some of those in the Duke of Sussexs
