Title |
Anglo-Saxon copper alloy gusset plate |
||
Description |
English: Copper alloy gussett plate or hooked tag. The plate has what appears to have been a rectangular panel, anthropomorphic head and incomplete hook. The panel has a high moulded perimeter enclosing a recessed channel 3mm in width. There is a smaller rectangular panel with high moulded perimeter in the centre, which is decorated with chip-carved squares and lines. There is not enough of the motif remaining to be certain as to what it was. Below the panel is an elaborate human face. The face has pellet eyes set in heavily moulded sockets. The hair has a large curl to either side of the head. The nose is prominant and triangular with a fat round cheek to either side. The hook below is rectangular in cross-section and in plan. |
