Title
Anglo-Saxon copper alloy object
Description
English: Incomplete cast copper alloy steelyard beam. The beam has a rectangular arm measuring 37mm in length, and 7mm wide at the looped terminal end, widening slightly 8mm at the incomplete end. The beam has a hatched perimeter which is slightly angled inwards and downwards at the incomplete end, along which perimeter it is broken. There is an integral loop at one end, and an elaborate moulded loop at the top. This loop is circular and has what looks like a small snake or beast draped over it. This feature is very worn. There is a small notch at the bottom side near the break which may have been the beginnings of another loop.
