Description |
English: Near complete cast copper alloy cruciform brooch. Rectangular headplate with a collared and half-rounded knob cast with the brooch. The two side knobs are missing. The knob is domed in outline. The headplate shows no sign of decoration. Arched bow faceted at the corners, convex in front with a central ridge, and concave behind. The bow is outlined with punched crescents. Rectangular plate below bow with a small concave section on either side, leading onto another rectangular section consisting of one central facing section, and two sloping either side. Dounle collar below leading onto an animal head terminal with very pronounced eyes and nostrils. A double incised 'X' quarters the face of the animal. Catchplate intact. Iron corrosion on pin lug. |
