Description
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy harness cheek piece of Early-Medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian) date (1000-1100).

The majority of the openwork plate is missing. It has a trapezoidal loop at the end of the projecting arm. At each corner or the outside edge of the loop, on the upper face, there is small rounded knop forming a decorative feature. The arm is sub-rectangular in cross-section and each corner is rounded. At the junction of the arm and the plate there is facing animal head which is reminiscent of the heads found on Class B stirrup-strap mounts. The rear is flat.

The object has no patina and the surface of the metal is dull brown.

41.1 x 20.2 x 5.3mm. Weight: 9.54g.
