Anglo-Scandinavian iron axe hammer 8th/9th century AD.
Description
English: Anglo-Scandinavian iron adze 8th/12th century AD part of an extensive collection from a known settlement. The length is 166mm, width of blade 52.3mm, hammer head is 27.2mm wide and 19.6mm length. The eye may have part of the original wedge remaining and was originally 12mm wide, elongated with a square end. The metal is slightly splayed in the area of the hammerhead, adze is curving, the width of adze in the area of eye is 25.3mm.
