Title
Anglo-Scandinavian mount
Description
English: Cast copper alloy mount from an unidentified object. The mount has a circular body with four integral lugs equally spaced around the perimeter. Three of the four lugs are identical. The three lugs are semi-circular and have a flat reverse. The obverse have a moulded raised rim with a flattened interior, each containing a moulded pointed oval in the centre. The fourth lug has a moulded handle-like rim with a flattened interior panel decorated with what appears to be moulded interlace. The centre of the interlace is pierced presumably to take a rivet, however the piercing looks to be of cruder execution than the rest of the object and also destroys some of the interlace decoration, which in turn suggests that it is a later modification and re-use of the object. The central circular body has a moulded raised perimeter. The interior of the circular panel is decorated with a narrower and shallower band either side of a moulded rope-like band. There is a tall circular rim in the centre containing denatured amber. There is another crudely executed rivet hole through the rope-like band on the opposite side to the pierced lug, again suggesting that this is a later modification or repair. The reverse of the mount has a layer of iron corrosion suggesting that it was once attached to an iron vessel or plate.
