Anglo Saxon Buckle Plate
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy Anglo Saxon buckle plate. The buckle plate is triangular in form with curved expansions on either side to which contains the heads of two domed rivets. A third rivet hole is at the base of the plate but the rivet no long remains. The open triangular centre of the plate contains a triangular gold sheet punched with even rows of dots. At the base of the triangular sheet are two sub-rectangular garnets set in cells. The outer edge of the plate has been tinned and is decorated with ring and dot, though only traces of the tinning remains. The back plate of the buckle and the buckle loop and tongue are missing. The length of the plate is 22.60mm, the width is 18.4mm and the weight is 3.75g.
