ANNALES, XL1II (l908). 33 ? organes sensoriels marginaux encore appelés tubes muqueux ou organes latéraux. On en remarque d'abord huit sur la face latérale de la région mandibulaire. Ils apparaissent à l'extérieur comme autant d'orifices réguliers donnant accès dans des cryptes cylindriques (fig. 4). Celles-ci s'ouvrent dans un canal lon- gitudinal qui les fait toutes communi- quer entre elles. Deux cryptes semblables sont por- tées, tout en avant, sur le bord supé- rieur de la partie saillante de la mandi- bule (fig. 6). En outre, on trouve trois de ces or- ganes sur la mâchoire supérieure, trois autres sur la surface préorbitaire, et un autre, très petit, tout près du bout du museau. Nous avons constaté que le canal lon- gitudinal qui unit les organes latéraux mandibulaires est perméable. On peut arriver à l'injecter d'un liquide coloré par l'un des pores. On voit alors ce liquide s'échapper par les autres orifices (fig. 4). La même opération ne nous a pas réussi chez l'adulte. Il semble qu'ici le canal est rempli de mucus et que l'eau n'y circule pas aussi librement. Il est vrai- semblable que chez la larve en marche, il y passe un courant d'eau continu, qui peut affecter les terminaisons nerveuses que les coupes y révèlent très nom- breuses. Chez l'adulte ces tubes muqueux semblent prendre un autre mode de fonctionnement.
