Annals of Iowa. Vol. IX, No. 5. Des Moines, Iowa, April 1910. 3d Series. AZRO BENJAMIN FRANKLIN HILDRETII. BY GEORGE D. PERKINS. When I came to Iowa in the latter part of the second monthin the year 1860 and engaged with my brother in planting anewspaper at Cedar Falls, in Black Hawk county, Azro Ben-jamin Franklin Hildreth had been established in like businessat Charles City, Floyd county, since the summer of 1856.Floyd county is in the second tier of counties north of BlackHawk, and by that measure in that early day it was deeperin the wilderness. Mr. Hildreth was my senior by exactlytwenty-four years, for we were born in the same month andon the same day of the month, which time, rather oddly, wasthe 29th of February. What attracted my early attention, however, was the fact that Mr. Hildreth was at the head of hisclass in Cedar valley. My first meeting with Mr. Hildreth was during the politicalcampaign of 1864. The late Senator Allison was first chosento the House of Representatives
