ne day, I have a brother in Burlington, Iowa,who has been a local judge. Wben you go to Burlington,please call upon him and tell him of the pleasant interviewswe have had. Not long after my arrival at home, I did visitBurlington, and had it in mind that while there I wouldcertainly call to see Judge Phelps. I had spent an evening atthe residence of Col. AV. W. Dodge, the son of Hon. AugustusCaesar Dodge, and at that time a State senator. The eveningwas one during the full moon, and it was almost as light asday. Passing through the little park as I descended the hillI saw a stranger coming in at the opposite corner. It occurredto me at once that this was Judge Phelps, and when I methi in I accosted him and found that my supposition was correct.I told him that I had intended to call upon him, but that thismeeting must suffice as my time was limited.
