Professor Hooker informs me that he possessesthe same variety, from Greenland. Captain Sabine collectedit at the North Cape. It has not before been recorded as anative of the continent of America. to the Rocky Mountains. 207 Desc. Root annual. Stem 6-8 inches long1, dichotomously branchedfrom the base, thick and rig-id, deeply striate, smooth. Leaves all pal-mately divided, rigid ; the segrnents oblong, or lanceolate, about three-fourths of an inch long, incisely serrate, the midrib prominent beneath.Heads growing from the forks of the stem, and terminal, sessile, abouthalf an inch in diameter, shorter than the involucrum.
