Text Appearing After Image:
The Cathedral Church and Episcopal Palace at Glasgow. Drawn by Thomas Hearne 1778. The different periods at which the huilding of this Cathedral was carried on, from 1136, when it was rebuilt by John Achaius, to the seventeenth century, at which time it was completed by Archbishop Law, have been given in the general description of it in a former number of this work : we shall now add some few particulars refpedhng the interior parts of the Church, as well as of the west end, and the remains of the Episcopal Palace, which are seen in the Print. The principal entrance of the Cathedral was originally at the west end, between the low tower and the consistorial house; and they're buildings, having neither elegance nor uniformity, give rather a mean appearance to this front of it. The western part of the Church from the centre, is called the Choir, and in this are now two places of worship, divided from each other by stone partitions, which, with the incumbrance of irregular pews, produce an effect very seldom experienced in buildings of this kind.
