Their thirst for the blood of Christiansextended to the mountains of Hermon and Anti-Lebanon, and in a short time 25,000 more wereslaughtered and their possessions laid waste. Among the Christian population were members ofthe ancient Order of Masons, and this fearful uprisingand massacre was checked by one of their number—Abd-el-Kadir—a Mohammedan himself, but of largeand noble nature.
