n thatpart of the waters which we have al-ready passed, in the vicinity of BoltonLanding, Shelving Rock, and thence toCaldwell, though fine trout and bass arefreely caught from one end of the laketothe other. Sabbath Day Point. Emergingfrom the Narrows, on the north, weapproach a long projecting strip offertile land, called Sabbath Day Point—so named, by General Abercrombie,from his having embarked his army onthe spot on Sunday morning, after ahalt for the preceding night. The spotis remembered, also, as the scene of afight, in 1756, between the colonistsand a party of French and Indians.The former, sorely pressed, and unableto escape across the lake, made a bolddefence and defeated the enemy, killingvery many of their men. Yet, again,in 1776, Sabbath Day Point was thescene of a battle between some Ameri-can militia and a party of Indians andTories, when the latter were repulsed,and some 40 of their number werekilled and wounded. This part ofHoricon is even more charming in its -ui.

On a calm sunny day theromantic passage of the Narrows, asseen to the southward, is wonderfullyfine ; while, in the opposite direction,the broad bay, entered as the boatpasses Sabbath Day Point, and the sum-mer landing and hotel at Garfields,are soon to be abruptly closed on thenorth by the huge precipices of An-thonys Nose on the right, and RogersSlide on the left. This pass is not un-like that of the Highlands of the Hudsonas approached from the south.
